Well, to be fair, if they had a room like Atlantis (and it's not The Tower kind) I can see why she would. Not that I would agree, but I can see. Especially if the IOA kept making calls, and she wanted to play dodge 'em (just my own theory). If 3/4th of the senior staff was killed, they'd just have Zelenka and Lorne fill some spots, and wouldn't Beckett be next as leader (oh, that'd be a bad idea, right there). Plus, she hasn't *gone* off-world except in about two or three missions anyway. So, she doesn't take too many undue risks.
The talking makes sense to me. Perhaps because I come from such a combative family (you have no idea) so to me it seems that talking has to be tried as long as possible. In an effort to save lives, and maybe they couldn't have talked Petersen down, but everyone would have been locked down and *safe* that way. Even if they couldn't, they would have gained enough time to figure out a way that didn't expose more people to the virus.
I was watching Kavan's video on that, and yeah secondary characters are massively important. Imagine no Lorne with his "Crap. Come on, kids. Gotta go rescue your uncle again" type reactions when Sheppard's in trouble.
Admittedly, I haven't seen the first couple episodes Vala was in, but I think it was necessary, in order to show she's more than just The Body.
Carter is so Mary Sued, I can't see straight. She'd put half the HP, all of the SGA, and quite a few of the Buffy fic writers to shame. I was so tired of seeing her being right all the time. She can't be. Even Rodney wasn't. I doubt, honestly, that they'll divulge into the female character's love life. After all, they're doing the man's fantasies on SGA (or the ladies's with all the slash writing here lately). I did like Carter in "Hathor", but I liked Janet way more. She looked more out of her element but fighting anyway. That's what is missing in most of the women. The grit that makes them as tough as the men but still females and okay with that side too. It's either/or almost with the writers.
