I would say you could go the tried-and-true direction of Gerard not being able to afford the shelter and having the guys come up with a scheme to raise money before they *gasp* loose the farm shelter! But by 'tried-and-true' I really mean totally cliché, although it would make a good overall conflict if you had one or two not-romance-but-paring-specific conflicts as well.

...Somewhere, mostly likely in my head, that made sense. Anyway though, no pressure, for reals.
