Might I suggest Janet Evanovitch's Stephanie Plum series? Hilarious! Stephanie Plum turns to bounty hunting after she loses her job. She's completely horrible at it, but still manages to get the man in the end. It's set in New Jersey, and features Lula an ex-prostitute-turned-assistant-bounty-hunter. Joe Morelli, undercover cop and a flame from Stephanie's past; and Ranger, an ex-military, exotic freelance bounty hunter. Really, you should try it.
