Brian would be the surfer-cool security forces guy assigned to watch the techs and mechanics and make sure they didn't do anything bad with all that tempting alien tech. Dom would be one of the Mechanics, 2nd Grade (even though technically he should have been at least 5th, but this one time he almost killed a guy who'd blown up a member of his crew with a misplaced intake valve...)

And Dom would take the puddlejumper joyriding (for "testing") and Brian would sort of insinuate himself into the group, at first on orders from his superiors ("Toretto's doing SOMETHING illegal, we just can't figure out what.") and then because he just can't stay away.
