Happy Halloween!

First things first... a link back to my Halloween story: Halloween Treat.
I'm not a huge fan of Halloween. My two best friends and I went trick-or-treating up until our first year of college, but that's because our neighborhood (they were my neighbors growing up) is decidedly kid-empty, so everybody loved us. My parents get maybe one kid if they're lucky now-a-days. Of course, we live on a culdesac in the woods :)
So now that I can no longer trick-or-treat, and neither my apt. nor my parents' house get any kids... well... not very exciting. We don't even decorate anymore.
Yesterday, though, I went with Brownstone and Sheila and baby Nat to Storybook Land in NJ. Nat was so cute dressed as a bunny, and it was a fun day... long and a bit rainy, but fun.
Brownstone and I got to discussing how annoying Britney Spears' Curious commercials were, and then got on the subject of celebrities "creating" perfumes... it's not like they actually made it. And then Monster Mash came on the loudspeaker at the park and we got hysterical, picturing Britney in her "lab"... "Brit was working in her lab, late one night when her eyes beheld an eerie sight... she did the mash, she did the perfume mash..." Okay, it was funny to us, but then, we're weird.
And now I'm sharing a bit of raw Nighthawk Nine.

Blaise did not like, and had never liked, the boy behind the counter at the coffee shop. It didn’t have anything to do with the fact that he knew he flirted shamelessly with Granger, of course, or that he was often surly and rude to Blaise himself.
No, it had everything to do with his eyes, and the impudent, knowing gleam in their depths. He just rubbed Blaise entirely the wrong way.
Bloody annoying Muggle.
Still, Blaise was in a good mood as he stepped out of the café, the first flakes of the first snow that winter fluttering down in a barely-there breeze. He was exactly the type of person who should have hated Christmas. A solitary creature with no family beyond his team, and no one to spend the holidays with beyond Draco. He should have hated the good cheer and warmth, the tin can Christmas music that blared in every store and spilled out onto the street in hums and whistles by nearly everybody in London.
But he didn’t.
Blaise loved Christmas. It always seemed to surprise him, too. Catch him off guard. The buzz of happiness that filled his chest at the sight of the brightly garish decorations, the well of contentment that blossomed in his heart as his breath crystallized in the frigid winter air. Because he knew he should hate it, simply on principle.
He hummed under his breath as he trotted up the steps to the Nighthawk offices, bursting in the door with a wide smile for Alice that made her pause and blink owlishly before returning it.
“Morning.”
“Good morning,” he called cheerily, shaking his head like a dog and chuckling as droplets of water landed on her desk. “Snowing already.” Granger’s laughter bubbled out from behind her closed door and Blaise raised his brows. “Good mood today?”
Alice nodded, pulling absently on a braid. “It’s in the air, you know. And it’s decorating day.”
“Hmm?” Blaise questioned distractedly, considering stopping into Granger’s office for a visit, but willing to bet it would cause her cheery mood to plummet.
“Decorating day!” She nodded to the small stack of boxes in the corner.

Date: 2004-10-31 01:35 pm (UTC)And I don't care for Halloween much either. We don't get many trick-or-treaters in our apartment complex either. I bought some candy and I'm sure I'll have over half left by the end of the night. My enjoyment of the holiday consists of watching children dressed up. That's it.

Maybe it's because I live in Canada, but I hadn't seen the commercial at all when people were complaining about it (I think it was on this lj). Saw it once, thought it was kinda pathetic. Was at a hotel this weekend, watching late night cartoons, and the stupid thing was on every commerical break for two hours. That's more of Ms. Spears than I can handle.
