Bare with my stupidity here: How does this work? Does Verizon have to come out and install something, or do I buy my own router and they just turn something on? Can someone who's set something like this up let me know what you've gone through? Customer Service is unhelpful if you're just asking questions. It's like, sign up or eat shit. No in between. And right now I'm just sort of researching options. So. Any advice??

--What exactly was the last step that the installation froze on each time?
--Does it look like the software is installed? Can you pull up the linksys connection manager or whatever it is called on the computer?
--Do you have a firewall?
--You may want to try installing and setting up the router from the desktop first, not through the laptop, and see if the software installation completes that way.

--Did you unplug and reset the memory on the cable modem after hooking up the router? Again, I'm not a computer techie, but the first time after installing my router and setting up the connections to the computer, I had the same exact thing: the blank browser and website not found errors. I had to reset the cable modem. My understanding is that is that if you don't sometimes the internet setting the cable modem has locked on to will interfere with/conflict with the router once it's been hooked up. (I think I either googled it or called Roadrunner support as I was not with comcast at the time, and that's what they said)

Normally, if I unplug both the router and cable modem from the power supply (NOT just unplugging the ethernet connection from the cable modem), letting them stay off for 2-3 minutes to clear the memory, then plug in the cable modem first and then a few seconds later plug in the router, that usually works.

Also, if you used WEP or WPA encryption on the router and the settings on your laptop don't match exactly, then the laptop won't work.

I'm sorry things are not going smoothly. It can be very frustrating.

Also, after doing the cable modem reset and stuff, if you are still having problems with the desktop, you might try going to network places-->view network connections-->click on your LAN connection-->the support tab-->and repair connection. It may or may not help.
