I'm trying to think of what to write next. My Spencer-at-the-beach isn't quite ready to post, but I really want to start some sort of light-hearted Brendon piece and I can't decide what angle to take. So, anyway, these two tiny snips were in my deletedpanicsga word doc, so they never made it into Supersaturation:

He’s glad they’re traveling off-world together. He’s glad Spencer still lets him in, if only as a teammate.

He’s glad Jon’s there, too, because Jon is a boy, and that makes him so much more than a soldier. He has friendly eyes, a ready grin, and he’s playful and affectionate, even, and Ryan would’ve doubted his skill in the field if he hadn’t seen him snap once, on a routine trade mission that ended with an ambush. He has dead-perfect aim and a steady hand and Ryan trusts him with his life.

Ryan’s heard Dr. Vogel talk of his Atlantis family before. He’s seen Dr. Simpson lean into Lieutenant Miller, seen them laugh, give one-armed hugs. Patrick says it’s the first wave syndrome, that all the original expedition members are like that, except Dr. Parrish seems just as close to Major Lorne, and Lieutenant Cadman and Dr. McKay have this strange sort of sibling rapport, and Ryan wants that. Ryan’s pretty sure that’d be the best thing ever.

**

Spencer kicks at Ryan’s feet lazily. The four of them are lying under this huge tree, dripping leaves like a weeping willow, and Urie and Walker are completely passed out, snoring, and Spencer feels tired. No, not tired. Loopy. Sleepy, maybe, only not quite, because his body’s still willing, it’s just his brain that’s decided to drift.

Spencer and Ryan didn’t get near close enough to the spores to be as drugged out of their asses as Urie and Walker. Spencer feels warm and fuzzy and smiley and the tree above them is just amazing. It’s huge and blue-green and it’s like they’re protected under there, it’s like the tree loves them, watches over them, and it’s very cool.

“This tree is very cool,” he says.

“Mmmm.”

“This tree loves us,” Spencer says, turning his head to look at Ryan.

Blah, blah, blah. Lunch is almost over. I ran this morning. With Ellie. She is apparently terrified of grates and manhole covers, but other than that she's good to run with.

I should write through all the Atlantis cliches with them. Off-world shenanigans are so much fun!

Spencer should be drugged all the time :)
