I've updated my fic recs page! Yes, this is what I've done so far during my lovely week off. I promise I'll write too, though :)

Anyway, I've got four new popslash recs up, and two new Harry Potter pieces. Definitely all worth a read, so go check it out *pokes you*

Now. Time for my new BRILLIANT PLAN.

I've decided that I can't come up with a suitable amount of HP recs, because I can't remember all my old favorites. So I want to take a leaf out of x month's popslash rec archive (check out my links page for that one) and start a character of the month rec list. And YOU ALL have to participate. For me? *bats eyes prettily*

Each month I'm going to pick a Harry Potter character, and beg for people to send me (suzcudd@yahoo.com or post in comments) story recs that feature that character. He/she doesn't even have to be the main focus, but I want an explanation for why you love how that character is portrayed in that particular story. And then the story and explanation will be posted on my site, with you as the rec-ee. Fair enough?

I'm giving you a jump on January. (and each of my subsequent updates in this LJ will have an annoying, nagging tagline reminding you to send me your recs). I'll start you off with an easy one, and also my favorite character when he's portrayed "correctly." I'm well aware that a lot of people DON'T like him, or don't like how he's often written. So I figured it would also be nice and informative. Remember he doesn't have to be the main character, and any pairing at all is welcome. Or none.

I declare January to be the Month of Ron.

Yay! You think it's brilliant as well! Yes, I'll pimp it out on my rec page as a separate page, and I think I'll get a lot of diverse stories, which is good because I tend to only go for the really whacked-out crack fic ones. *grins*

I think Ron is severely unappreciated in that people just write him crappily and therefore a lot of people hate him.

Of course I think it's brillant! It's a way to give characters more exposure, besides just Harry or Draco. And you go for the cracked out ones. You ARE cracked out. Of ourse, now I have to find more Ron that isn't you know...YOU. *giggles*

February should be female, to balance out. Like maybe Susan or Hannah, to follow that underappreciated theme.

I must say, I'm going to be narcissistic and rec my own fic, here. Only because as Ron is my favorite character, I had a lot of fun delving into his psyche for it...feel free to disagree!

I'm sorry, in my pimpage I forgot to describe my Ronnie love :D.

I liked my characterization in this fic particularly because I felt it got to the root of poor Ron's insecurities...he was passionate and tempermental, but lovely and sweet, too. His views on life are at once simple and complex, and I tried to convey that in this fic. I think Ron is so underrated- he is loyal to a fault, and he's really just trying to live life like the rest of us- not in the shadow of anyone else.

I'd also like to rec someone else to make up for my little bout of self love ;)

The wonderful Maya. On FAP, she usually writes Harry/Draco centric stuff, but her Ron/Pansy fic "Flame and Shadow" is fantastic. Ron is all at once condused and frusturated at how the image of his life is shattered- how he isn't at all living the life he thought he could. He is raw and passionate but at the same time, so clueless and all noble in his intentions and twisted in logic and just...and just quite yummy for a fictional character. :D

Howdy! I saw your post on weasly worship, and thought I would just pop onto your journal. I pretty much only read fic that has Ron in it, any pairing, so I would love to see a nice list of fics. Off the top of my head though, I have two big well known ric recs with wonderful Ron characterization that really feels like it could be a Ron developed further from canon.


I just love Ron in Night Zephyr's stories, particularly "Points of No Return."

It is yet another fic about Ron discovering some type of seer power, but I love how he is written. THe characterization has a bit of insecurity, loyalty and support to Harry, a tenitively developing relationship with Hermione, and also features Ron's loyalty to someone who needs his help. This was one of the first fan fictions that I read that didn't kill off Ron or make him overly jealous and evil.


I also like the Ron in Mad Martha's Circles of Power.

This and the entire "Aurors" series features a Harry/Ron relationship, and the Ron characterization is quite witty. He is a bundle of energy and love and a bit of jealosy in this fic, and I just love this type of Ron characterization.
I know that there are a few others that I want to add, so I might pop back in now and then. I look forward to your rec list post though. I have three kids under 5 and take classes, so I rely on rec's to find good fanficton so I don't waste precious computer time on searching. I appreciate that you have the time to make rec lists.

My recommendation is a story by JMA titled They Just Don't

I love this story, because it is one of the few stories in which Ron is in character. The truth about the rumor is discovered so slowly, it hurts. And at least I felt like screaming at the author to tell me what's going on and when i realised what has happened it felt like a punch in the face.

I love Ron's characterization in "Come Together" BY Granger

Hey! Caught your post on FA, and thought I'd come here to post my rec for a Ron fic, since it's NC-17.

I love this fic for its characterization of Ron - most fics tend to make him a whiner and jealous or just generally comic relief. This fic put him in a place of power, as a major player against the dark side. A horrific attack on himself and Harry leads Ron to alter his whole way of life, and take charge of his destiny by training to become a War Mage. Along with Harry and Hermione and a whole cast of others (including Alive!Sirius), Ron becomes a force to be reckoned with witout completely taking him out of character.

Being powerful doesn't solve all of his problems, though, and that's what makes this story great. While the main plot is about Harry and Ginny, there is plenty on scenes with Ron in it. War and Passion is complete, and Fire and Ice is in the works, though the author is slow to update. F&I is basically the same story, told from the viewpoint of Ron and Hermione - also worth a look!

Ron understands the rules of battle through chess. As the knight, he protects the white king, who is the only player than stop the black queen from overtaking the board. For once, Ron's not jealous but accepting of his role. That makes it a favorite for that characterization alone. Short, but to the point, and well done to boot.
