* Question - is there any sort of Bandslash remix challenge? If not, is there any interest in one? I've only participated in one for SGA before.

* I have mild writer's block. I'm hoping editing my Horrendously Ill-Advised Harlequin Fic will jump-start me, because I can't focus on any one story right now. It's so sad.

* I'm reading the most amazingly fun LONG original fic - Prisoner, by [livejournal.com profile] maderr. Oh my god, it's so much fun, and really well-written, and long. I'm about halfway through, and I've already read at least 150 pages.

* J has to go to the dentist because he's having massive pain, yet he keeps putting it off because he's phobic. I don't get being afraid of the dentist. I know a lot of people are like that, but he's had his arm split open and he thinks nothing of surgeries of all kinds, and yet he can't get his teeth drilled? He says I'm okay with the dentist because I haven't had anything bad happen - which is bull, because I've had teeth pulled, I've had braces, I've had (admittedly only one) cavity. I go every 6 months, I set up my next appointment while I'm there - teeth are not to be messed with! Oh well. He's going to have to just do it, because the pain's waking him up in the middle of the night.

* nothing else. back to lunch!

When you said remix I thought you meant mixed tape. I would be down with that.

I am so bored I started thinking about high fructose corn syrup commercials and started arguing with them in my head.

Yeah! Or in general too. ♥

there are these weird commercials for corn syrup that try to act like it's the same as sugar. They are sugar smear campaigns.

I've seen a lot of comments around from people wanting a remix challenge, but I don't think one has ever been officially put together. I'm all for one, as long as it doesn't stir up the wank like the SGA one did. :|

From what I remember, people were very up-in-arms about their stories being "rewritten", which...isn't really the point of the challenge? I think a lot of it was just people not completely understanding rules.

I believe there is plenty of interest in a bandom remix, it just hasn't been organized yet. [livejournal.com profile] disarm_d and [livejournal.com profile] zarah5 were working on one, but I don't know if they've dropped that project or not.

I am following your Prisoner rec and just uploaded the whole thing onto my ereader (she has a webpage with all of the stuff in one file, if you'd rather read it that way). I hope I like it, because it looks like there's so much other stuff on there!

How'd you find her, anyway?

trolling delicious original tags I stumbled on her - I've read Wolf Given and Seventh Son by her this week, too, and they're really amazingly enjoyable :) It's so tough to find good original fic!

I think a bandom remix would be fun. I liked the SGA and HP ones.

Boo to writers' block :(

I'm going to have to check out that original fic.

I used to like dentists more when I was a kid.

the original fic was AWESOME. I finished it last night - so much fun.

Dentists when we were little were fun - I used to love getting toys afterwards. Except the floride treatments were the WORST. I would take teeth pulling over having those things shoved in my mouth for five minutes or whatever. they're always like chocolate or strawberry flavor? but that didn't hide the fact they they were disgusting and uncomfortable and would drip down the back of your throat, ugh. I wonder if they still do that?

Please tell J to talk with his dentist. I also have a phobia about going there. They hand me valium the moment I walk in the door (the man who followed me got 2) and it goes much better.

[livejournal.com profile] maderr is kind of amazing! I really envy her ability to knock out all these amazing, long, well-written stories.

There's a new issue of [livejournal.com profile] bb_shousetsu out with a story I really liked, World's Finest (http://s2b2.livejournal.com/93799.html). It has superheroes!

I would be interested in that, and would also be willing to help if you wanted to get something off the ground.

(Noting that if you did, it would probably have to be fast, since the holiday fic season is almost upon us.)

I would totally do a bandslash remix thingy. What, can I ask, is a remix? No clue. But I'm totally in.

WHICH REMINDS ME, I totally need your help, I accidentally signed up for this fic exchange THING when I've never DONE it before and I got this request that is so so so out of my naturally angsty, dramatic league that for a month, I've been staring at it in morbid fascination, and it's got to be Draco/Ron (I KNOW, HP, what was I thinking, I haven't written that in years) and a 'portrait of domesticity'. Like, with teaa kettles and cookies and, and, reading the newspapers on Sundays, that's what they mean, right, where's the plot in that?! Seriously, I have anxiety over this, I can't do domestic, where no one's in danger of death.

It's when you take someone else's fic and spin it. Like, you can write a missing scene or you can rewrite the story from a different POV or pick up on something small in the fic and expand it - it's fun, but really challenging. The hard part for me is letting someone else rum rampant over my work! But you can list the stories that you don't want touched, and any unfinished series are off the table, too, because you don't want to step on anyone's toes!

Oh man, HP?! Okay, so how long does it have to be? Because you don't really need a plot, you can just have Draco/Ron bickering and maybe some sort of pet that hates Ron but loves Draco or Draco trying to do the laundry or Ron hiding from Ginny under the bed or, um, uncomfortable tea shenanigans with Hermione Granger. You know, I haven't read the last book yet? I have it in my closet, and I have avoided all spoilers, but I have no desire to read it. Weird.

I don't have dentist fear (I've been very lucky with my dentists) but I think the fear is a combination of extreme powerlessness and guilt. You're prone, on your back while people loom over you, and those chairs aren't as easy to roll off of as a hospital bed, and you just have to lie there and take it.

The guilt is because you always kind of know that any filling you get you could have stopped, but all those times you didn't floss, or you ran out of toothpaste or didn't brush as well as you should? And the dentists knows, the dentist sees every cavity and knows that it's because you didn't take care of your teeth properly.

And there is the patient, impotent and ashamed, while the dentist leans over and says, "Now we're just going to see if the numbness has set in."

*laughs* Well, J specifically says he has sensitive teeth, and even the thing that squirts air hurts him. I don't think he's lying exactly but I think he's exaggerating a little :)

I've never been able to enjoy kidnapped. I can sort of follow in the beinning, but as it gets more and more complicated I always loose track of all the different things happening and have to stop reading. Definitely not one I personally enjoy.
Have you tried the Black Magic (http://maderr.livejournal.com/tag/black+magic) stories? It's not finished yet, the last set is pending, but I think I remember liking the ones that are out.

Yeah, I gave up on kidnapped - something about the interspecies stuff pinged my squick, and then it started to get all techincal and I left!

I haven't tried Black Magic yet, but I will. I'm on the Lost Gods - I loved book one, and now I'm reading book two.
