Instead of writing something new, I've started the long, arduous task of re-creating Dirty Trousers into something original... first step is changing character names and Americanizing their speech, which is actually much much harder than it sounds... I've found that my flow, word choice, etc... sounds weird with more American-ish dialogue, so I have to unformalize a lot more than I thought I would.

I'm only on page 70. 160 more to go!

And then I can start making certain parts fleshier and then I can also cut stuff out, which always kills me. Ah, well.

***

Okay, so I'm Pirate Booty's maid of honor... I have less than a month to write a toast. GAH! For all my writing capabilities, I suck at writing out my true feelings. Plus, it's not like I'm going to be able to get through it. I'm gonna start bawling five words in, I just know it.

AND! Get this... her fiance wants us to walk down the aisle to BRITNEY SPEARS! *laughs hysterically* Oh, K. You are so never going to live this down. (and yeah, we're doing it. Tho it's a harp version and thankfully Britney will not be singing *giggles*)

***

Does anyone know how to get peanut butter AND jelly out of a keyboard? J dropped a glob right by the space bar... it's getting sticky, and I have no clue how to get it out.

He is no longer allowed to eat while using the comp.

I could point you to a harp playing friend who deos a very good greensleaves. Sure beats American Spears.

Erm why are you americanizing Dirty trousers?

Erm why are you americanizing Dirty trousers? Well, I'm unsure if British-isms are good enough for original work... Plus, if I have to research locations and stuff, it's easier to make them from an area I'm familiar with, especially the school system. I'm STILL hazy on the whole college-uni thing. I mostly just muddle through with vague-isms in DT as it stands.

WooT! You might actually make money out of DT! You don't really have to americanise it, though. You could've kept them English. *Shrugs*

I figure if I have to interject more of a plot in it, I might as well deal with an area of the world I'm more familar with... I'm still not sure of the whole British school system thing.

hello.
So glad you're working on DT, even if you're not actually updating. I'm a huge fan. Oh, btw, I have a little story that seems very similar to DT *kicks self* I must have been your fic so much it showed up in my writing. I wondered if you could maybe take a look? Please?

love,

Cat

Hi, I'm just a fan, but I'm really glad you're rewriting the DT as original fiction and continuing it as a fanfic.

Regarding your keyboard, the dishwasher method recommended on this thread seems to be what you're looking for: http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=339383&highlight=clean+keyboard+dishwasher
(sorry, I don't know how to code links.)

washing keyboard

From: (Anonymous)
My brother in law dropped a banana milkshake all over a laptop. It was washed (not in the dishwasher) and it was fine. Basically, as mentioned in bizzatch's link, you have to make sure that the keyboard is dry before you use it again. A hairdryer may be of some use, on the cold setting, to get rid of most of the water immediately after rinsing. Don't worry about corrosion, tap water is used to clean rust off electrical circuits. Just don't wash the keyboard often.

As an aside, I've been reading your stories for ages, here and at fictionalley. I've always enjoyed them, and I hope that you can keep going and finish a few more stories.

Regards,
Gwyn ap Rhys

YES! I was just thinking the other day that you should Originate it (if that makes sense. You know what I mean) and make some money out of it. DT deserves to be a cult classic... and will be, if I have anything to do with it. Not sure what I can do to help it along mind, but I'll buy a load speaker and do my bit!

When I've got over this disgusting fluiness and actually done some work watch out for the first installment of the utterly dreadful This Means War. It's amusing me anyway. Did you ever read The Babysitters' Club? Apparently it gets into your consciousness *and never leaves*!

Gah! I'm so happy for you! I was wondering why DT wasn't an original fic in the first place, but it does get you a bigger audience on here if it has something to do with HP I suppose...and the British school system is strange, but the universities and such are virtually the same, far as I know. But Americanizing it is cool too. :) You'll have to pick only several of your squillion subplots though, so best of luck to you! :D

And a toast? blegh, I would suck at those. Just...write what you feel...? hehe

I figured it'd be harder to Anglacise em for Americans. We use all sorts of funny words and spelling according to you Americans (for the last time you write TO someone not write them! :P)

Britney is rather evil. Her documentary with her husband is actually horryfying. He is the perfect example of what not to look for in a bloke.

Yeesh got me there. I mean jam and peanut butter is bad enough on their own but together! Try using warm water with a little bit of soap. Should work.

DT's already really far removed from canon HP, so I think you're idea's great. But does this mean you won't be writing DT as a HP AU anymore?

hmmm... americanizing dirty trousers... well obviously! i mean, all AU's are really original works with borrowed names. (that is a compliment btw...)

what americanizing? or does having an english mum and american dad completely kill my ability to tell the difference between the two?

...

as for the pb&j, a lightly damp cloth used to wipe away the sticky (while the comp is off) works well... at least it did the last time i spilt spag bog. on my powerbook...

Nooo! Don't do it! I like them better British!

Besides, if you Americanize them, it might make it slightly less special. Half the fun of Dirty Trousers is your British-isms and the fact that they're BRITISH.

Please! Don't do it!

Well, the actual DT will stay the same... I'm just experimenting, and it's easier to write american places - though I'm finding it mighty tough to tackle american speak again, after writing British for so long!

It probably won't go anywhere...
