* Hermione is not well-loved. This makes me sad, because she can be totally cool if written correctly. Do not get me started on canon vs. fanon, because while I love her world, I do not particularly love JKR. Yes, that is possible.

* Panic!Fic is short, but longer than I expected it to be for just getting my feet wet. I picked Brendon as a pov, because I figured he was like Seamus, only less Irish and more gay. Yes, that is totally possible.

-- I keep using the phrase "punch you in the head." Mainly from Spencer. I feel this is justified.

-- While I can slash just about anybody in Panic!, I'm writing what I've seen very little of.

-- When I'm done, I'm probably going to need a character-checker, at the very least. It's not detail-heavy, though, because I'm not immersed enough in their lives.

Brendon was settled on the opposite side of the room from Spencer, legs pulled up and hands wrapped around his knees. Spencer was eating cereal.

“What’re you doing?” Ryan asked, looming over him.

“Spencer-watching.”

Ryan arched his eyebrows.

“I’m giving him his space,” Brendon clarified, and then Spencer raised his voice and said, “If you don’t stop staring at me, I’m going to punch you in the head,” without looking away from the TV.

* I need bandslash icons, now.

* Also, I've got all of The Black Parade in my head. The whole thing. On one continuous loop. I'm not complaining, it's just strange.

JKR? created a brilliant universe, and then didn't do anything to it. I mean, look at it- there's all the elements of something that could've been a world commentary and she chooses to skip over all the nasty things that make it a great universe in favor of totally focusing on three characters that aren't that well written or developed. That's why I like fanfic. There better writers that actually explore these possibilities of who those minor characters are, of what the world could be like outside of Hogwarts, of these spells that are so honestly frightening (imagine seeing a stick waved at you, a flash of light and that's IT) and yet, Harry is entirely nonplussed by this entire situation in her universe.

I loved her universe, and then moved on from her books to find out what others thought and pretty much struck gold there in term of good writers and stories that explore her universe to a greater (and more believable) way.

BTW- PANIC!snippet? was too cute. Can't wait for the entire thing. eek! (ps- send over some recs of good panic!fic??)

JKR? created a brilliant universe, and then didn't do anything to it. Exactly. It's because she isn't that great a writer. I kind of wish she'd given the idea to someone else. Like, a co-writer or something. Or at least I wish somebody had thought to rigorously edit the crap out of her later books. Books about boy-wizards should not be that long! Half the stuff was boring and inconsequential, like she just wanted to tell us all as much as she could about the world in her head - but there's no revelance and it's just stupid and long.

ps- send over some recs of good panic!fic??) All the panic! stuff I've read is here (http://del.icio.us/houseofpants/panic!). It's all so adorable.

Yes. It's like its supposed to be something it's not- either good turning-of-age work, or semi-social commentary or something- but it's not. And she's just not great enough of a writer to do something like that, and I wish she'd just stayed to her strength- imagination.

Thanks. I see some that I haven't read before...
